Degree

In today's working world, writing skills have become a precious commodity. According to a report from the National Commission on Writing, writing is a "threshold skill" for hiring salaried employees. At LETU, we know the value of effective communication, and we make sure our English students do too.

However, the Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature is more than just a "reading and writing" program. English majors at LETU hone the fine art of expressing ideas, of crafting words and phrases, in a way that speaks to other people.

Enjoyment and analysis of good literature remain essential parts of our program at LETU, where our students develop critical reading and thinking skills as they become well acquainted with the writings of significant British, American and international authors, both classic and modern. And, should they decide to pursue a master's degree, English graduates will have a firm foundation and ability to communicate well in any discipline of their choosing.

Beyond the classroom, our English students have many other opportunities for academic growth, including:

  • Becoming English tutors
  • Joining LETU's chapter of the International English Honor Society
  • Becoming a part of the Visual Literacy Research Team
  • Studying abroad at the University of Oxford
