LeTourneau University’s School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET) recently received a higher level of accreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. The accreditation was for the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE), and the Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (BSECE).

This recent accreditation upgrade affirms the longstanding heritage of LeTourneau University as the predominant destination for an industry-level engineering program at a Christian university. The ABET accreditation of our Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) set the bar early on in our university's history for what it meant to be "industry ready" upon completion of a four-year, undergraduate engineering degree program. The BSE has continued over the years to cover all engineering concentrations offered through LeTourneau University SEET. In 2016 the Mechanical Engineering concentration was affirmed and certified by ABET for accreditation as a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), retroactive back to 2014.

The university is pleased to now have this higher level of engineering program accreditation for its Civil Engineering program, and the Electrical and Computer Engineering program. BSECE includes concentrations in electrical, computer, or mechatronics engineering. Mechatronics Engineering combines mechanical with electrical engineering featuring robotics and automations topics.

Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering programs.

Speaking to this most recent update, Interim Dean of SEET at LeTourneau University, Dr. Matthew Green said, “we changed very little, but we have raised the level of accreditation in our programs.” Dr. Darryl Low, Chair for Civil and Environmental Engineering stated, “The BSCE is the industry standard for Civil Engineering education, and we believe reflects the quality of our graduates and the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at LeTourneau.”
The university is pleased to have this even higher level of engineering program accreditation for its Civil Engineering program, and the Electrical and Computer Engineering program.

While this upgrade to our accreditation provides helpful support to the industry preparedness of our engineering graduates, our commitment to excellence in technical training has remained unwavering in the 75+ years of our university’s existence.

"The School of Engineering and Engineering Technology at LeTourneau University continues to lead within Christian higher education and beyond by equipping students through industry-ready experiences and the integration of their Christian faith and professional calling. These additional ABET accreditations further affirm the value and quality of an engineering education at LeTourneau. I am grateful for the expertise and diligence of our faculty and support staff that contributed to this extensive process and impactful achievement” said LeTourneau University President, Dr. Steven D. Mason.

This recent engineering accreditation update is retroactive to October 2020.
