Paul Abbott

LETU Board Member Since: 2002
CEO, Covington Aircraft

Biography:
Paul is the chairman, president and owner of Covington Aircraft Engines in Okmulgee, Okla. Paul graduated from LETU in aviation technology with a private pilot license and certification in Airframe and Powerplant. He depends on Christ daily and seeks His guidance in every decision he makes as he serves the Lord of his life. Paul and his wife, Betty, are active in their local church, where Paul is a deacon, Sunday school director and teacher, and he also serves on a personnel team. He is a leader in his community, serving on different boards, including a bank, an economic development board, a hospital, a safety program for pilots, and a retirement community. The Abbott Aviation Center is named in his honor.

Commitment to LETU:
Paul serves as the secretary for the LETU Board of Trustees. As an alumnus and a longtime supporter of LETU and aeronautical science, he actively shares how God has blessed him in his business. He has displayed his aircraft passion and business at career fairs and has supported LETU for many years. The Abbott's oldest son also graduated from LeTourneau.


Bill Anderson

Biography:
Bill is an executive mentor and consultant to business leaders, based in Colorado Springs, Colo. He served as the president and CEO of Christian Booksellers Association for more than 20 years. He has made frequent appearances in the media during his time with CBA, featuring on numerous national radio, television programs and other national print media. He has served on nine boards of directors including industry, ministry, education, business, and leadership organizations. Bill is a cum laude graduate of LeTourneau College where he studied Bible and missionary technology. He continued his education through various business and management programs in business training and leadership development. Bill is faithfully active in his local church serving as a lay leader, Sunday school teacher, youth group leader and sponsor, and elder.

Commitment to LETU:
Bill and his wife, Nan, met while at LETU. He has been actively involved in alumni meetings and providing support to the university. Bill joyously pursues his work and leadership skills by focusing on missions and ministry in his workplace.


Patrick A. Bertsche

LETU Board Member Since: 1996
President, Matrix Design, LLC

Biography:
Patrick is president of Matrix Design, a subsidiary of Camcraft, Inc., in St. Charles, Ill., where he is involved with financial management, strategic planning and business operations. He previously served as superintendent of the Westminster Christian School where he also was the president of the school board. For several years before that, he was vice president of operations at Camcraft, Inc. Patrick has been involved with financial management, strategic planning and the operational details of running a business. Patrick and his wife, Melanie, are active members of their church.

Commitment to LETU:
Patrick was reelected chair of the LETU Board of Trustees. Since his graduation from LETU in 1989, he has coordinated alumni meetings in Phoenix and Chicago and has hosted numerous alumni events in his home. In 2010, he served on the Trustee Committee for the Strategic Plan. Patrick’s wife also graduated from LETU in 1989 with a bachelor’s in business.


Jim Brake

President, Brake Fire Protection, Inc.

Biography:
Jim is the president of Brake Fire Protection, Inc., of Stratford, Conn., a full service fire sprinkler company. A 1988 graduate of LETU with a degree in design technology and business, Jim later earned a master’s degree in biblical studies from Dallas Theological Seminary. He is passionate about strengthening the fellowship of the body of Christ. He has been a leader in his church, recruiting and equipping teachers to lead Sunday school classes. He serves as a youth leader and coach for a Bible quiz team and has helped develop a comprehensive adult Bible fellowship Sunday school program at the church he and his wife, Marjie, attend.

Commitment to LETU:
Jim is a strong supporter of the importance of receiving a Christian education, which is what originally drew him to LETU in 1982, along with the engineering and technology programs. He has represented LETU at local college fairs and enjoys being in the presence of students seeking an education at LETU while he is on campus.


Sheree R. Cosa

National Account Manager, Commercial Printing Solutions

Biography:
Sheree is a national account manager for Commercial Printing Solutions, a print, direct mail, promotional product and fulfillment solutions company based in Tulsa, Okla. She graduated from LETU in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Her professional experience includes business, advertising/marketing and manufacturing. Over the years, Sheree and her husband, José, have been involved in youth ministry at their church by teaching Sunday school and serving as AWANA directors.

Commitment to LETU:
During her years as a student at LETU, Sheree worked in the admissions office. Her husband is also an LETU alumnus, earning his degree from LETU in 1979, as well. Over the years they have supported LETU students in numerous ways.


Dave Cottrill

LETU Board Member Since: 2008
(Retired) President, Pace Engineering Canada

Biography:
Dave is retired as president of Pace Engineering Canada, a manufacturer of machinery used in construction, mining and oil and gas. He has owned his business for over 22 years and is both an engineer and entrepreneur. Dave graduated from LETU in 1980 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He has been very involved in his church and other ministry opportunities. Dave has served on the Parent Advisor Board for Young Life—Niagara Region, Vision Casting Team at Harbour and as director of the Canadian Board of CAM International.

Commitment to LETU:
Dave worked in LeTourneau’s admissions office for two years after he graduated. His wife, Judy, also attended LETU. Dave has served as the alumni representative on the LETU Board of Trustees from 2001-2003.


David Dykes

LETU Board Member Since: 2013
Senior Pastor, Green Acres Baptist church

Biography:
As senior pastor of one of the largest churches in East Texas, David is well respected as an effective Bible teacher and servant leader who has written 11 books on biblical principles and has opened both the Texas Legislature and the U.S. House in prayer. He has led mission teams to over 30 foreign countries and has a passion for training Christian leaders abroad. The Southern Baptist Convention has honored him with their highest honor, the M.E. Dodd Award for his lifetime of work. He has served as a member of several boards and is an experienced private pilot. He graduated from Samford University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1975 and earned both Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Louisville, Kentucky, before continuing post-doctoral work in 2005 at Cambridge University in England.

Commitment to LETU:
David brings the perspective and leadership of a senior pastor to the LETU board and has long been a vocal supporter. He has previously spoken at LeTourneau University and visited the campus numerous times. He and his wife, Cindy, have two married daughters and four grandchildren.


Kimberly Fish

Freelance Writer

Biography:
Kimberly is a freelance writer and community leader in Longview, Texas, where she is active in promoting economic development and revitalization projects for the city. She is the founder of GoWest Longview, an economic development movement to revitalize the western entrance into the city of Longview. Fish has supported LETU students through scholarships and mentoring. Originally from Georgia, she is a 1986 graduate of Bob Jones University with a degree in cinema. She is a member of the Longview-Greggton Rotary Club, Zonta International, Longview 2020 Comprehensive Planning Committee, Longview Chamber of Commerce, and Partners in Prevention. She and her husband, Dr. Melton Fish, attend Mobberly Baptist Church. They have two children, Michael and Laura.

Commitment to LETU:
Kimberly serves on the LETU President’s Advisory Council, serving as an ambassador for the university within the Longview and East Texas area.


Gene Frost

Head of School, Wheaton Academy

Biography:
Gene is Head of School at Wheaton Academy, a private Christian academy in West Chicago, Ill., He is an ordained minister who began his career as a youth pastor and Bible teacher in a Christian school, then spent 22 years in the business world. His diverse business experience includes being a pit trader on the Chicago Board of Options Exchange, a corporate trainer and a human resources executive. His last decade in business was spent as president and CEO of an educational mentoring and software company. He has been a leader in various non-profit and corporate boards. Gene earned his undergraduate degree in religious studies from Wheaton College, his divinity degree from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary and his doctorate in education from Northern Illinois University. He currently serves on his local church's planning committee, board, and as a Sunday school teacher. Over the years, Gene and his wife, Barbara, have been faithfully involved in their church, Evangelical Covenant Church.

Commitment to LETU:
Gene has been familiar with the ministry of R.G. LeTourneau throughout his life, having played high school basketball in the LeTourneau Gymnasium at Wheaton Academy. He believes strongly in the importance of a Christian education that aids a believer to grow in faith and into a lifetime of service and ministry. Gene’s life has been devoted to Christian education. He brings experience in education, business, finance, insurance, ministry, fundraising and resource development to his role on the LETU Board of Trustees.


Robin Guyer

Owner/Manager, Bunker Hill Supply Company

Biography:
Robin owns Bunker Hill Supply Company, a family-owned agricultural service company in Hutsonville, Ill. His business experience and leadership have provided numerous opportunities for him to lead in a variety of ways. He has served as a director of First Robinson Financial Corporation. He is a co-founder, director and original board member of Lincolnland Agri-Energy, LLC, a cooperative that developed, built and owns a plant that produces the biofuel ethanol. He also has served as an elected county official for District 1 on the Crawford County Board. Additionally, he has served on the Crawford Memorial Hospital board and the board of his local school district. He understands prioritizing spending and operating efficiently to maximize budgets. Robin has been heavily involved in his local church as well as developing a new church with his wife, Belma.

Commitment to LETU:
Robin earned his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering degree from LeTourneau. He and his wife, Belma, support LeTourneau University and understand the importance of the Christian higher education that LETU offers.


Joe Bob Joyce, Sr.

LETU Board Member Since: 2009
Owner, Joyce Crane Service

Biography:
Joe Bob Joyce is the founder and owner of Joyce Crane Service. He maintains his business at various locations in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. He has served on various boards and committees including the Safety Council of East Texas, Specialized Carriers and Riggers Association Foundation, Eastman Chemical Contractor Safety Council Board and the Boys and Girls Club of Gregg County. Joe Bob and his wife, Lou Ann, are involved in their home church. Joe uses his experience in financial management in positions at this local church such as deacon, treasurer, and chairman of the Finance Committee. He also serves on the Debt Reduction Campaign and Stewardship Campaign at his home church.

Commitment to LETU:
Joe Bob has been involved with LeTourneau University for several years in numerous roles. He served on the 2008 Phoenix Planning Committee for the golf outing, as a member of the 2008 Vision Campaign Committee, on LETU’s President’s Advisory Council (PAC), and has provided support for the Baja and Scholarship student teams. He has been involved in the renovations of LeTourneau’s athletic facilities, and LETU’s Joyce Family Athletic Center is named in his honor.


Loren Leman

Engineer/Fisherman, Michael L. Foster & Associates

Biography:
A former lieutenant governor for the state of Alaska, Loren currently works as the vice president of Michael L. Foster & Associates. His professional career has covered engineering, public service and resource development, among others. His political career in the state of Alaska began as a state representative from 1989-1993. From 1993-2002, Loren was a state senator until he became the Alaska Lieutenant Governor from 2002-2006. Additionally, he is an engineering consultant and fisherman. Loren has served on many government, community and church boards, as well as committees and task forces. As a native Alaskan, he has worked as a commercial salmon fisherman since 1959.

Commitment to LETU:
Loren attended LETU as a freshman until he transferred to Oregon State University to pursue civil engineering, an academic major not offered at LETU until 2009. In 2005, he was the commencement speaker at LETU’s graduation ceremony, and he has been the featured speaker at a leadership symposium. He and his wife, Carolyn, have a daughter who graduated from LETU


Bud McGuire

Principal, Alpha Petroleum Services

Biography:
Bud is a principal of Alpha Petroleum Services, an oilfield development company based in Houston, Texas, that he formed in 2002 following an extensive career in petroleum drilling operations. He began his career as a production engineer with Conoco Oil Corporation in 1966 and continued on to serve in executive leadership positions in several companies, working all over the world. Through his experience in drilling operations, he has developed broad skills in business consulting and analysis and has demonstrated his ability to manage at all levels. A native of West Texas, Bud earned his degree in industrial engineering from LeTourneau College in 1966. He and his wife, Brenda, are active in their church where he is a devoted Sunday school teacher.

Commitment to LETU:
Since 1999, Bud has served on the Advisory Council of the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology at LETU and has provided leadership to a variety of university trustee committee assignments.


Nancy Mendez

LETU Board Member Since: 1990
Assistant City Manager, City of Whittier, Calif.

Biography:
Nancy is the assistant city manager for the City of Whittier, Calif., where she oversees major projects and ensures the city council’s goals are accomplished. Prior to her current position, Nancy worked as the director of human resources for the city. She also has experience as an intermediate schoolteacher and program director at Emerald Cove Camp. She earned her teaching certification and bachelor’s degree in physical education/recreational administration from Biola University. Nancy is very involved in her community and church. She has served with the American Cancer Society, several PTAs and Whittier College. Additionally, she has taught children and adult classes and led fellowship at the church she and her husband, Al, attend. They have been a host family in a Japanese exchange program.

Commitment to LETU:
Nancy has served as LETU’s first female chair of the LETU Board of Trustees. Her father served as the board chair in the 1970s when she was a student here. She attended LeTourneau for three years before finishing her degree at Biola. During her time as a student, she traveled as a member of the LeTourneau Singers.


Dr. Larry Mercer

LETU Board Member Since: 2000
Executive Consultant/Leadership Coach, Therapon Leadership Services

Biography:
Larry's work experience has included interaction with the public school system, adult prison system, local church ministry, juvenile justice system and Christian higher education. Prior to his current position, he was the president of Washington Bible College/Capitol Bible Seminary and senior vice president for media and church ministries at Moody Bible Institute. He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from East Carolina University and a master of theology in pastoral ministries and doctor of ministry in education from Dallas Theological Seminary. Larry has served as Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder and associate pastor. He speaks at churches and Christian conferences around the country and has authored a book on Christian parenting.

Commitment to LETU:
Larry is currently serving as the vice chair for the LETU Board of Trustees. He assisted LETU by conducting a cultural competency audit and guided the university in its faith-based cultural competency training. He and his wife, Annie, live in Cedar Hill, Texas, and have a daughter who graduated from LETU in 2007.


Paul Montgomery

Portfolio Manager, Scotia Partners, LLC

Biography:
Paul is the director of portfolio research and a portfolio manager at Scotia Partners, LLC, an investment consulting company in Spring City, Penn., he owns with his son. Paul is a businessman and entrepreneur who has built and sold several businesses. He has extensive experience in finance and fiscal responsibilities, investments, personal financial planning, business and entrepreneurship, and in supporting ministry organizations in various ways. Paul has served for numerous years on the board of directors of a church planting and missionary organization Crossworld, originally called Unevangelized Fields Mission (UFM), which began in 1931 sending missionaries to the Congo to change lives through Christ. Paul is a psychology graduate of The King’s College. Paul and his wife, Carolyn, have traveled to places in Europe, Brazil and Haiti on mission trips. They are active in their church and are renovating their 18th century farmhouse.

Commitment to LETU:
Paul led the management of LeTourneau University’s endowment and was elected treasurer of the LETU Board of Trustees. He believes in the value of Christian higher education. He strongly supports LETU’s mission to educate students to integrate their faith in the workplace.


Mike Myers

Staff Psychiatrist, Brooke Army Medical Center

Biography:
Mike is a board certified psychiatrist on staff at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. A former LETU student, Mike earned his undergraduate biology degree from Dallas Baptist University in 1992 before pursuing his medical degree in 1999 from University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio where he has served as clinical faculty since 2009. He held an internship and residency in psychiatry from 1999 to 2003 and was board certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 2012. He has served on other boards, including for a chapter of Habitat for Humanity and a physician’s compensation panel. He and his wife, Lisa, attend Community Bible Church in San Antonio and have two daughters, Kristen and Kimberly.

Commitment to LETU:
Mike has been involved in LeTourneau University’s Alumni-in-Action activities during homecomings, has served on the Alumni Advisory Council, and has supported the university financially and through prayer. He believes in the integration of faith in work and supports higher education in an environment of uncompromising Christian values and teachings.


James Nolt

(Retired) Owner & V.P. of Operations, American Hydro Corp

Biography:
James is a consultant and the retired owner and vice president of operations for American Hydro Corporation, a company he co-founded in 1986 to design and manufacture hydraulic turbines for the power industry. The company sold in 2010. He previously had worked for the Batelle Memorial Institute and as a manager with Allis Chalmers Corporation. He is a former president of the Central Pennsylvania Section of the American Welding Society. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in welding engineering from LeTourneau College in 1974 and later earned a master’s degree in welding engineering from The Ohio State University. James has also served as the president of his country club in York, Penn., and serves on the board of directors of a regional bank. He and his wife, Loretta, are active in their church. 

Commitment to LETU:
James has been with LeTourneau since his college years as a welding engineering student. He has generously gifted the university, and his membership on the Board of Trustees brings talent and strength.


Joe Nowiczewski

President, Nova Consulting Services

Biography:
Joe is president of Houston-based Nova Technical Services LTD., that provides project management, coordination and inspection services to the oil and gas industry. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from LETU in 1970, and attended the University of Tennessee for his master’s degree. Joe and his wife, Paula, currently work with and minister to young people from Slavic countries who come to the United States to work at resorts.

Commitment to LETU:
Joe began his service on the Board of Trustees as the alumni representative. He is active in LETU’s KZX society alumni group and is instrumental in planning their reunions. Joe also serves as business mentor to LETU graduates who are beginning their own businesses.


Doug Roszhart

Principal Multi-Discipline Engineer, L-3 Communications

Biography:
Doug is a senior engineering specialist in the mission integration division of defense contractor L-3 Communications in Greenville, Texas. He has extensive experience in technical engineering, aeronautics, and public service. He earned an associate’s degree in design technology and a bachelors in mechanical engineering from LETU in 1981. An Eagle Scout, Doug has served on his local city council and as a trustee for Greenville Christian School. He is involved in his church as a deacon, and has supported and served with numerous ministry teams such as AWANA, choir, missions, and financial teams. He and his wife, Carol, met at LETU. Their son, Nathaniel, graduated in 2008 with a degree in professional flight. Their daughter-in-law, Bethany, graduated in 2009 with a psychology degree. He also serves on several boards and committees.

Commitment to LETU:
Doug is the Alumni Representative for the LETU Board of Trustees. He has served on the Alumni Council for LETU since 2010, currently serving as chair. He has recruited numerous LETU students to work at L-3Communications and has worked with the LETU career center to recruit graduates.


James Schreder

Civil Engineering, Danjon Engineering, Inc.

Biography:
Jim is a civil engineer and the president and owner of Danjon Engineering in Placentia, Calif. He has been a licensed, professional civil engineer in California since 1987. From 1993-1999, he also owned an investment firm. He earned his bachelor’s degree from California Polytechnic University at Pomona and a master’s degree from California State University at Long Beach, both in civil engineering. He also has taught engineering at Biola University. In his community, Jim has served as chairman of the board for the Skylight Foundation, a non-profit organization for pastoral and disability housing. He has also been a committed trustee board chairman at his home church.

Commitment to LETU:
Jim’s father was a LeTourneau alumnus and served on the board of trustees for LeTourneau University in the 1990s. Jim is following this family tradition. He is excited to bring his experience from various financial boards and his background in civil engineering to his role as trustee at LETU. He and his wife, Michelle, have two sons, Daniel and Jon. They attend the First Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton, Calif., where Chuck Swindoll was pastor for many years.


John Solheim

Chairman/CEO, Karsten/PING Manufacturing Corp.

Biography:
John is the president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of two companies: Karsten Manufacturing Company and PING, an American manufacturer of golf equipment, based in Phoenix, Ariz. He has managed PING Golf Clubs (PING Inc.) and its subsidiaries in several countries. He has extensive experience in business management and leadership positions. He and his wife, Sunny, live in Phoenix, Ariz.

Commitment to LETU:
John attended LETU as a student in 1964. Since then, he has hosted many LETU golf tournaments in Phoenix and been involved in several LETU alumni events. He supports the university athletics teams and employs several LETU graduates in his companies. John has also chaired the Facilities Committee on the LETU Board of Trustees. The Solheim Recreation and Activity Center on the LETU campus is named in his honor.


Wayne Trull

President/Architect, Trull-Hollensworth Architects

Biography:
Wayne is president of Trull-Hollensworth Architects of Magnolia, Ark., which offers master planning, architecture, construction administration and interior planning services. He graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in architecture. Wayne is a licensed architect in nine states and has over three decades of experience working as a principal architect in a firm. Wayne serves as the chair of the Magnolia City Planning Commission, and is a board member on the Columbia County Courthouse Restoration Committee. He and his wife, Nancy, are active at the church they attend, where Wayne is a choir member, deacon, Sunday school teacher and director. The Trulls have been involved with mission organizations that have taken them around the world.

Commitment to LETU:
Wayne has faithfully given counsel to LETU's building programs and served as the vice-chair and chair of the Board of Trustees. Wayne also served on the 2006-2007 Presidential Search Committee and on the Trustee Committee for the Strategic Plan.


Bob Walker

President and Co-Owner, Walker Manufacturing Company

Biography:
Bob is president and co-owner of Walker Manufacturing Company, maker of lawn mowers and tractors that are distributed throughout the United States and into 28 foreign countries. He oversees business and marketing of the family-owned company. Bob understands and runs his business based on strong Christian business principals. Bob is a private pilot whose first job was with Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas before working with his family’s business manufacturing innovative lawn equipment with superior maneuverability and quality. Bob and his wife, Barbara Ann, live in Fort Collins, Colo. and attend the Church of the Nazarene in Loveland, Colo. They have three grown children Amy, Janey and Carey.

Commitment to LETU:
He is a 1969 mechanical engineering graduate of LETU who used to work mowing the grass on campus when he worked as a student in grounds maintenance. Bob is interested in Christian ethics in business and faith in the workplace initiatives, like those of LeTourneau University.


Dean Waskowiak

President & CEO, Encore Multimedia Advertising

Biography:
Dean is the founder, president and CEO of Encore Multimedia, in Longview, Texas, that serves clients locally and from across the nation. He graduated from LeTourneau University with a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science, as well as an associate's degree in design technology. He has years of experience in business, insurance, ministry, public service, advertising and marketing. He has led Bible studies, mentored groups, taught classes, served on numerous committees, and continues to maintain personal involvement in various Christian and non-profit organizations. He and his wife, Brenda, live in Longview.

Commitment to LETU:
Dean has been a part of LeTourneau in many ways for a long time. He has served as a member of the Alumni Council for 15 years, and also as the Alumni Council Representative to the Board of Trustees. He was named the university's Alumnus of the Year in 2004, and was given the LeTourneau Distinguished Service Award in 2012. He has been a chapel speaker, a guest teacher for different classes and dorm devotions, and has provided professional service and generosity to the university.
