Admissions
Q: Is there a deadline for submitting my application? 

A: Yes and no. We do not have a specific date prior to the beginning of each semester by which you must submit your application but the earlier the better. Applications for fall 2011 will be accepted through August 2011.  Applications for fall 2012 will be reviewed beginning September 2011.

Q: What is the admission process?

A: All international students applying for the undergraduate program must submit the following documents to be considered for admission:

Q: Will I get credit for classes I have taken at another university? 

A: Yes, transfer credits can be obtained at LeTourneau. Please submit transcripts of all university work completed inside and outside the United States. If you have taken classes at a university outside the U.S., please submit your transcript to Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) to have your transcript reviewed and sent to LeTourneau University. Transfer credit may be granted based on ECE's course equivalency determinations.

Cost
Q: How much does the program cost?

A: The tuition & fees for 2013-2014 are $35,300. This total cost does not include the following (estimated annual costs in parentheses): Books & Supplies ($1,420), Transportation ($1,240) and Personal Expenses ($1,150).  Additional fees also apply for students in aeronautical science and engineering programs.

Financial Aid
Q: Are there scholarships for international students?

A: Yes, LeTourneau University offers merit-based scholarships to international students. After you submit all the transcripts, you may be eligible for a scholarship based on your high school or university level grades and SAT or ACT scores.The Presidential, Dean's and Honor's Scholarships are all merit-based. Scholarships are worth between $2,000 and $11,000 per year.

Housing 
Q: Does LeTourneau University have student housing?

A: Yes, LETU provides residence halls with several options students can choose from. For men, Tyler Hall, Pennsylvania & Mabee Halls, The Quad, Davis Hall, Thomas Hall, and Village Apartments are provided to meet the needs of the students. For women, ELH, Gilbert Hall, Village Apartments, and Davis Hall are the living options. Married Student housings are provided for married students.

Orientation 
Q: When should I arrive at LETU?

A: Every year, LeTourneau University offers an International Student Orientation for all international students and students who have grown up overseas as missionaries. This typically begins one week before classes start and is followed by the orientation for all incoming students.  International Student Orientation begins on August 14 this year.  Please arrive at some point around the 14th in order to fully participate in the activities.

Q: How can I get to LETU? 

A: If you are on an airplane, you should plan on flying to East Texas Regional Airport, in Longview, Texas. Flights to East Texas Regional Airport are available from Dallas, Texas. LETU arranges for student pickup at East Texas Regional Airport the Sunday or Monday before the first day of International Student Orientation. Longview is also served by Amtrak's Longview Depot and Amtrak's Texas Eagle, which departs from Dallas, Texas. LETU also arranges for student pickup at Amtrak station in Longview. 

Q: Is orientation mandatory for new international students?

A: Yes, the international student orientation, advising, and registration days are required for all newly admitted LETU international students. You must bring your passport and I-20 to orientation sessions and present them to the Office of International Studies.

Requirements
Q: Do I need to show proof of English proficiency?

A: Yes, you must show proof of English proficiency through the TOEFL or IELTS tests unless you are a native speaker of English and a citizen of Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, or the British West Indies.

English proficiency may be demonstrated in any of the following ways:

  • TOEFL
    • 80 on the Internet-based version (iBT)
    • 197 on the computer-based version
    • 525 on the paper-based version  
  • IELTS
    • 6.0 on each band

*Conditional admission may be granted for students who have obtained a 60 or better on the TOEFL iBT or a 4.5 on each band of the IELTS. 

LeTourneau University offers an ESL program for conditional admission for students already at an intermediate or advanced proficiency level in English.  *Please note that there is not a beginner level in the ESL program.*  Students may enroll in 12 hours per semester at either the intermediate or advanced level.   Students must enter the program with a working knowledge of English due to the fact that these classes are designed to prepare students for academic performance and degree completion at LeTourneau University.  More information about ESL courses can be found here.

Student Life


Q: Where is LeTourneau located?

A: Our 162-acre campus is located in Longview, Texas, which is located two hours east of Dallas and one hour west of Shreveport, Louisiana. To learn more about Longview, click here.

Q: Are there places for shopping in Longview?

A: Yes, there are places like the Longview Mall, Longview Main Street, and Walmart, all within 15~20 minutes drive.

Q: What is the weather like in Longview?

A: The Longview region is humid (70%) all year. In the summer, the temperature reaches to about 95°F (35°C), . In the winter, the temperature drops down to about 34°F (1°C). So please bring both summer clothes and a couple of winter jackets.

Q: Can I work as a student? 

A: Yes, a number of on-campus jobs are available to LeTourneau students who are qualified and successfully apply for such positions. Note that for international students with F-1 visas, employment is limited to campus jobs only.
