Office of the Registrar - Privacy Statement

Release of Student Academic Information To Parents

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, sometimes referred to as the Buckley Amendment, is a federal law that governs the sharing and privacy of student education records (including class schedules, test scores, grades, transcripts, etc.).  While FERPA gives parents rights to access their children's education records through elementary and high school, those rights transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level.  This means that LeTourneau University must have your student's consent on file before academic records will be released to you.

To Obtain Grade And/Or Student Progress Information
Concerning Your Dependent Student(s)

  • Your student must log into MyLETU to complete a release of academic information
  • After the release has been received and processed by the Office of the Registrar, you may contact your student’s advisor for your dependent’s academic and/or program information. To protect the integrity of your dependent student’s academic record, you will need to provide the advisor with some basic information, such as your dependent’s legal name, date of birth and student ID number, before information will be given.
  • Mid-term Grade Reports are distributed to the students in October of the fall semester and March of the spring semester.  Both Mid-Term and Final Grade Reports for each semester are provided via the web to the student.

More information about FERPA is available in the Academic Policies section of the Academic Catalog at www.letu.edu/catalog and in the Special University Policies section of the Student Handbook at www.letu.edu/StudentHandbook.
