Career Opportunities
A degree in accounting will prepare students for a challenging, but rewarding career. Successful businesses are managed by quality financial information. Accountants are trained to prepare, analyze, and interpret that information. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, accounting is the third most sought-after bachelor's degree in the country, meaning college graduates who major in accounting are some of the most strongly recruited by employers.

CPA Requirements
The accounting program at LeTourneau University meets the current requirements established by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA) to be eligible to take the uniform Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. The TSBPA requires candidates to have 150 college credit hours which includes 36 hours of accounting courses with a grade of C or higher.

4+1 Program
LeTourneau is sensitive to the needs of students and parents in pursuit of a quality education. LeTourneau offers a program which allows students to complete a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Masters of Business Administration in five years. This program assists students in meeting their goal to sit for the CPA exam while expanding their knowledge and experience. View the course requirements for this program.
Internship Requirement / Opportunities
All LeTourneau business majors complete an internship. This opportunity provides our students with real-world application of the knowledge and skills gained in the classroom. Many of our students become full-time employees of their internship partner. Some of the organizations our students have completed internships with include Martin Midstream, Karen Jacks & Associates, Phillip Sinclair, CPA, Texas Bank and Trust, and Bowles Properties.
Ample local and global internship opportunities set LETU accounting students apart. All accounting students complete at least one internship before they graduate in order to translate their textbook know-how into proven experience. To help establish strong careers for their students from the start, the LETU accounting faculty provides connections with numerous businesses and opportunities across Texas.
Community Service Opportunities
Our students are concerned about the world they live in and seek opportunities to serve where God has placed them. Some of the service projects our students have participated in include the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provided through the Greater Longview United Way.
In 2012, this organization assisted citizens of Longview in receiving $778,566 in tax returns. LeTourneau students volunteered over 221 hours, which represents more than 30% of the total volunteer hours for VITA for the 2012 tax return year.
Also, the East Texas Literacy Council hosts an annual “Scrabble With Friends” event and silent auction benefitting individuals seeking to learn reading skills and individuals completing or continuing their education. The LeTourneau students serve as scorekeepers at this event each year.
Clubs & Student Organizations
LeTourneau has opportunities for students to participate in organizations that assist students in acquiring and building leadership skills for the mission God has for them. The opportunities at LeTourneau include the Professional Accounting Society (PAS). This organization includes majors from many disciplines, beyond accounting. Students learn to work collaboratively with students from other disciplines and majors to acquire common goals.
Students also work with Rotaract, a service organization in connection with Rotary International and the Longview Rotary Club. Through their work with Rotoract, LETU students learn “Service Above Self." Rotaract provides students the ability to serve their world locally and internationally by meeting needs of people.
