LeTourneau University aviation student Cecilia Kim has been selected to receive the American Airlines 5K scholarship and an all-expenses-paid trip to receive the scholarship at the Women in Aviation conference in Reno, Nevada, March 22-24. The conference annually attracts over 4,500 in attendance.
To qualify for the scholarship, Kim had to be a member of WIA and submit an application that described how the scholarship would help her achieve her career goals to become a professional aviator.
Born in Korea and raised in Fiji, Kim has long been motivated to learn to fly and be a role model for women of any culture that they, too, can pursue professional flight as a career.
“Cecilia has the motivation and skills to become a true aviation professional,” said LETU Director of Flight Operations Laura Laster, who has taught Kim in class. “She completed her private pilot certificate in February 2017, beginning her commercial pilot certificate training next, and she is already well on her way through completing her instrument rating. She is dedicated, professional, and intelligent and has an excellent attitude and a willingness to serve others.”
Kim has attended the 2016 and 2017 WIA International conferences where she immersed herself in aviation experiences to improve her knowledge and make contacts in the aviation industry.
She has volunteered with students attending the North Texas Chapter’s Girls in Aviation Day event.
