LeTourneau University Names Don Egle Vice President for Marketing & Communication

LeTourneau University has named Don Egle (MBA, ABC, APR) to a newly created position as Vice President for University Marketing and Communications, effective May 4.  Egle has 14 years of demonstrated success in marketing, communications and public relations.


Reporting to the president and serving as a member of the senior management team, Egle will lead an integrated marketing effort that advances the university toward fulfilling its strategic vision.  He will provide strategic direction and project management for all marketing efforts university wide, oversee marketing/public relations vendor contracts, manage marketing spending and develop performance metrics based on increasing brand awareness, perception, satisfaction and lead responses.


“Don will be a significant addition to our leadership team and to Longview,” said LETU President Dr. Dale A. Lunsford. “He is an accomplished marketing and communications professional with a passion for Christian higher education.”


Egle comes to LETU from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va, where he served as the senior director of communications.  Since 2006, Egle also served as JMU’s spokesperson, adjunct faculty member, liaison to the Board of Visitors and adviser to the president and his cabinet.  He led a team of 26 communication professionals and interns, managed a network of freelancers and managed an $825,000 operating budget.


Under his leadership, the JMU communications office collaborated campus wide to attract approximately 25,000 applications for an incoming freshman class of nearly 4,300 and helped support the successful completion of the university’s first capital campaign. His office successfully advanced and positioned the university brand on a global scale, achieving enviable media placement and reaching 47 of the top 50 national media markets last year, as well as leveraging social media to move stakeholders through stronger levels of engagement with the university.


Prior to his work at JMU, Egle also served two years handling media relations as the director of university relations from 2004 to 2006 at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., and two years as a public relations and marketing consultant advising on public relations, fundraising strategies and marketing opportunities for the Godparent Foundation and Liberty University (2002-2004). Additional work included sales management and client relations work within the corporate sector.


Egle earned his bachelor’s degree in communications with a public relations specialization and an MBA from Liberty University.  Egle has also earned both professional accreditations from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). In 2013, he was elected to serve a second two-year term as PRSA’s National Professional Adviser, allowing him to serve over 300 campus chapters totaling over 11,000 student members.
