LeTourneau University and SkyWest Airlines will sign a letter of agreement to provide a direct pathway for selected LETU flight students to find employment with SkyWest Airlines after graduation. The signing will be at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, in the Grand Hall at LeTourneau University’s Abbott Aviation Center at East Texas Regional Airport.
LETU Provost Dr. Philip A. Coyle said this partnership with SkyWest Airlines provides LETU flight students a direct path to pursue their aviation careers.
“LETU’s aviation program is built on excellence and on great partnerships like this one with SkyWest,” Coyle said. “This agreement will facilitate a pathway for qualified LeTourneau University pilots who graduate from our flight program to pursue a career as an airline pilot with SkyWest Airlines. It is a testament to the quality of the pilots our school produces.”
LETU’s dean of the School of Aeronautical Science Fred Ritchey said the agreement benefits the university’s recruitment efforts, as well.
“This new SkyWest partnership agreement will also serve to provide recruitment incentives for us to attract students to our flight program,” Ritchey said.
Acceptance requirements for the SkyWest Pilot Cadet Program include completion of courses in crew resource management, electronic navigation and flight control systems, commercial flight operations, transport category aircraft systems (class and lab) and introduction to aircraft gas turbine engines.
Students in the Pilot Cadet Program must maintain a minimum grade point average, complete advanced jet training courses and attain the FAA ratings of Commercial Pilot/Instrument and Multi-Engine, and Certified Flight Instructor.
The SkyWest Pilot Cadet Program enables LETU flight students, upon meeting and completing program requirements, the opportunity to be part of the next generation of exceptional pilots at SkyWest Airlines.
