Over 100 LeTourneau University students are gearing up to serve others during their March 12-16 week of spring break.
“This year we have added two new trips with Buckner border ministries to an area of South Texas where students will put on a sports camp and build a home for a needy family,” said LETU Chaplain Harold Carl. “Many of our students serve in their area of expertise and familiarity, such as our pilots and aviation mechanics serving with mission aviation groups. Others stretch themselves and go and serve in very unfamiliar territory. But no matter where they serve, they do it because they love people, and they love the Lord.”
Amy Weaver, a junior psychology major from Murrieta, Calif., is the student vice president for LeTourneau Student Ministries and is responsible for coordinating the many details of the mission trips.
“We will minister alongside mission organizations that are working to further the Gospel,” Weaver said. “It is exciting to see our student’s desire is to serve others and use their talents and abilities for ministry because it reflects the heartbeat of LeTourneau University.”
Most of the groups will leave on Friday, March 9, and return Sunday, March 18. There will be a commissioning session to send off the groups during the 10:50 a.m. chapel service on Friday, March 9, at the university’s S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center.
Students will serve over spring break in the following locations:
San Isidro, Texas (Buckner International) – Two groups will be traveling to the South Texas border to assist Buckner. One group will assist a local church there in building a home for a needy family, and the other will partner with that local church to put on a sport’s camp for children to teach them leadership and athletic skills. Both teams will focus on sharing the Gospel message.
Kykotsmovi, Ariz. – Students will spend a week at a Hopi Mission School on a Hopi Indian reservation to do construction, ministry and outreach.
Robbinsville, N.C. (The Master’s Mission) – Students will spend the week doing general construction and learning how this missionary training facility works.
Elkhart, Ind. – Students will travel to HCJB Global Technology Center to be directly involved in the development of technology for mass media ministry. They will meet with engineers and technicians to learn about the development of technology that impacts the world for Christ.
Ephriam, Utah (TriGrace Ministries) – Students will partner with a college ministry and reach across cultural borders as they share Christ.
South Padre Island, Texas (Beach Reach) – Students will participate in “Beach Reach,” a ministry to partying college students who need safe transportation on the island. LETU students also will share the Gospel message and offer free pancake breakfasts.
Coshocton, Ohio (MMS) – Students interested in aviation maintenance will travel to MMS Aviation where they will be directly involved in assisting with maintenance, modification, and repair of missionary aircraft.
Waxhaw, N.C. (JAARS) – Students with a desire to serve in the mission field will travel to JAARS, a mission aviation center where the students will be involved with the repair and maintenance of missionary aircraft.
