LeTourneau University engineering students from Dr. Roger Gonzalez’ engineering project management class recently won second, third and fifth place at the 2012 Regional ASME Student Design Competition at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La.  The students designed, built and race four autonomous vehicles to complete in a relay race without human intervention. Each of the vehicles had to be small, contain an on-board energy source that would trigger the motion on the next vehicle and bonuses were awarded for devices powered by unique energy sources.

The second place team comprised sophomores David Follingstad of Nairobi, Kenya; Jonathan Sculley of Atlanta, Ga.; and Caleb Bender of Colorado Springs, Colo.

The third place team comprised juniors Jacob Hurst of Winchester, Va.; Stuart Miller of Richmond, Texas; and sophomores Zach Danko of Solvang, Calif.; and Mario Paretta of Chicago, Ill.

The fifth place team comprised sophomores Alex Rhyner of McHenry, Ill.; Kayla Bayse of Dallas Center, Iowa; and juniors Tim Heinrich of San Juan Capistrano, Calif. , and Jimmy Luntzel of Redmond, Ore.
