U.S. News Ranks LETU in Top Tier of 2012 "America's Best Colleges"

Tue, Sep 13 2011

LeTourneau University has again ranked in the top tier nationally in the U.S. News and World Report’s annual rankings of “America’s Best Colleges.” LETU was also listed among the 2012 “Up-and-Comers” listing and the 2012 “A-Plus Schools For B-Students” listing.

LeTourneau University was ranked among the top 8 private schools in Texas and was ranked above all state universities in Texas in the same category of “Best Regional Universities.” LETU is ranked 39th among all the Best Regional Universities in the West in the 2012 U.S. News rankings.

For the first time, LeTourneau University was listed in the top three “2012 Up-and-Comers” schools cited most often by college presidents, provosts and admissions deans as the “up-and-coming” schools in their category.

The magazine reports, “College administrators surveyed in the spring of 2011 for the U.S. News Best Colleges rankings were asked to nominate institutions that they think have recently made the most promising and innovative changes in the areas of academics, faculty, student life, campus or facilities.” Abilene Christian University and Chapman University in California were the other two schools on the list.

Also for the first time, LETU was listed (alphabetically) on the “A-Plus Schools for Students” list of 21 colleges that were a good choice for students to achieve with spirit and hard work, even if they struggled to be A-students in class.

For 18 years, the university has been listed in the magazine’s top tier rankings. U.S. News ranks colleges and universities among other schools with similar programs and degree offerings. Indicators used to determine the rankings include small class sizes, high SAT and ACT scores of incoming freshmen, the student-to-faculty ratio, average graduation rates and assessments by administrators at other peer universities.

“We are pleased to receive this national recognition for our quality programs, and especially to be noticed by our peer institutions,” said LETU President Dr. Dale A. Lunsford. “I believe our new programs in air traffic control, nursing, civil engineering, counseling, criminal justice and worship arts are increasing our national recognition.”

LeTourneau University is an interdenominational Christian university located in Longview, Texas, offering academic majors in aeronautical science, business, education, engineering, health care, the humanities and sciences. LeTourneau University also offers graduate programs in business, counseling, education, engineering and psychology, as well as undergraduate programs in aviation studies, business, criminal justice, human services, interdisciplinary studies and psychology online and at educational centers in Austin, Bedford, Dallas, Houston and Tyler.
