LeTourneau University has named Dr. Tim Watson of Longview as the special assistant to the
president focusing on outreach. Based in Longview, Watson will travel throughout East Texas and the
rest of the state as he preaches in churches with a gospel message that implements the university’s
strategic vision to impact every workplace in every nation for Christ.
Watson will share the legacy of LETU founder R.G. LeTourneau who integrated Christian faith and professional vocation with the realization that “working for God” is not just limited to those who work in full-time ministry employment, but that God is glorified through believers working in a variety of fields, including education, business, engineering, aviation and many others.
As a representative of LeTourneau University, Watson will build relationships with area
churches and will use his extensive experience in the pulpit to share messages that encourage
believers to live out their faith in their daily work. He will also provide information for
churches who have families interested in sending their college students to LeTourneau University.
Watson grew up in Baton Rouge, La. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Christian Studies in 1986
from Louisiana College in Pineville, La., where he started pastoring a small country church at the
age of 22. In 1987, he came to Texas to attend Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth where he
earned his Master of Theology degree in 1993 and his Doctor of Ministry degree in 2006. Watson has
pastored at First Baptist Churches in Decatur, Mart, Canton and Longview during his 25 years in
pastoral ministry.
