LeTourneau University’s annual Get it Together health fair will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7 at the Solheim Arena on the LeTourneau University campus, 2100 Mobberly Ave.
At the LETU health fair, Good Shepherd Medical Center will provide free medical lab tests that include complete lipid profiles and glucose testing valued at more than $400. Nearly 70 business and health care professionals will be set up in the Solheim Arena. Door prizes are given away every few minutes.
For most accurate lab results, participants are encouraged to fast after midnight, the night prior to having lab work drawn. Other free services include blood pressure and pulse oximetry testing, fitness assessments, spinal exams, foot screenings, vision and glaucoma screenings, hearing screenings, nutrition and diet counseling, heart health, exercise counseling, financial health advice and the benefits of therapeutic massage. Other services include drug and alcohol prevention and abstinence education, along with mental health and wellness education. The community will also have opportunity to visit with a local pharmacist, and learn the importance of organ and bone marrow donation and register with Southwest Transplant Alliance and the National Marrow Donor Registry.
“Our free Get it Together health fair emphasizes the importance of making lifestyle changes to improve your overall health and well-being,” said LETU Director of Health Services Shela Dawson. “Last year we served 1,400 people with nearly 80 healthcare professionals and businesses who donated their time and services. This community outreach encompasses the whole person, mentally, physically and spiritually.”
