Brittney Powell (right), masters of counseling in psychology said, "I want to become a professional counselor and ultimately take that to the mission field. LETU offers a holistic education in psychology that integrates a biblical approach that works in today's culture."

What an honor to hear from Ms. Gerrie Forbis today as we celebrated her 50 years of service at LeTourneau! She shared about her experiences such as working with R.G. and Evelyn LeTourneau, how her LETU family rallied around her through a cancer diagnosis, and recounted storied student pranks with laughter. She hopes all LETU students will be lifelong learners and offered them sage advice: "Read your Bible, say your prayers, keep your faith."
Her work has inspired the Gerrie Forbis Staff Excellence Award and the Mayor of Longview declared January 15, 2016 Gerrie Forbis Day. Thank you, Ms. Gerrie, for everything you've done for LeTourneau! [Link]

Top Hawk team member Bryson Herge is an Ellwood City, Pennsylvania native and a Senior Aeronautical Science major. Bryson’s favorite thing about LeTourneau is that his classroom is “thousands of feet above the ground.” Bryson’s favorite Bible verse is Psalm 19:14, and his advice to those looking to get into aviation is to “just try it! Aviation is not for everyone and there is a reason for that, but you will never know if it is what God is calling you to unless you try it. I am a testimony to that.” Bryson is looking forward to “getting to interact with so many new people throughout this program, and to help be a part of getting someone new involved in aviation.” #LETUaviation #TopHawk2016 #TopHawkU #LETUTopHawk [Link]

Hampton Wagner of Bolton, Massachusetts is a Freshman Professional Flight major with a concentration in Maintenance, and a member of the 2016 Top Hawk team. Hampton says that his favorite thing about flying at LeTourneau would definitely be our focus on “really learning to hand fly an airplane, and being able to understand how to fully control it. LeTourneau teaches students to be the best that they can be at flying an airplane while emphasizing greatly safety and organization.” Hampton’s favorite professor is Mr. Lauren Bitikofer because “he really cares about his students, challenges them to be better, and his faith is really incredible - definitely a role model.” After graduation, Hampton hopes to fly for a regional airline with goals of eventually flying for a legacy carrier. Hampton closes by saying: “ There are so many awesome experiences and opportunities in this industry, and it is a pretty tight knit community. It is a lot of work at times, but the challenges are worth it to not only become a better pilot, but also a better Christian. Wherever your career takes you, whether it be an office or on the flight deck, always remember to put God as the Captain of your life.” #LETUaviation #TopHawk2016 #TopHawkU #LETUTopHawk [Link]

Brandon Brenchley is a sophomore Professional Flight student with a concentration in Maintenance from Skopje, Macedonia. Brandon says that “being surrounded by classmates and friends [at LETU] who have the same goals as you both encourages and challenges you as a pilot.” Brandon’s favorite Bible verse is John 17:3. Brandon decided to be a part of Top Hawk because, “the idea of being able to share aviation and the LeTourneau Aviation program with people sounded too good to pass up.” In closing, Brandon says to those looking to get into aviation that “you have to just try it. Whether flying becomes a career or just a hobby, it is an amazing activity to participate in.” #LETUaviation #TopHawk2016 #TopHawkU #LETUTopHawk [Link]

Our next Top Hawk team member is Sweetwater, Texas native, Cody Shamblin. Cody is a Professional Flight major, and the thing that he loves most about LeTourneau is the atmosphere. “Since it is smaller than many schools, it is easier to develop personal relationships with the instructors. At LeTourneau, you are actually a name, and not just a number.” After graduation, Cody plans to apply for a job as a flight instructor at LeTourneau in order to build flight time and further develop skills. Eventually, Cody plans to go to work for a regional and then major airline. Cody looks forward to “meeting other people with the same passion as [him]” through the Top Hawk program. He also hopes to “pass on some encouragement, because this path is not easy. If there is someone out there who is debating about following their dream in aviation, I hope to meet with them and cheer them on.” #LETUaviation #TopHawk2016 #TopHawkU #LETUTopHawk [Link]

Our next Top Hawk team member is Junior Aviation Management Major with a Concentration in Professional Flight; Kyle Van Kooten. Kyle is a native of Clive, Iowa, and his favorite thing about about LETU is our “rich history of aviation professionals that can be found in all parts of the industry.” When asked about professors who have had an impact on him, he points to one our newer professors, Mr. Jimmy Page. “Mr. Page brings very detailed and up-to-date information regarding the inner workings of the airline industry. As a student who may be interested in an airline career, it has been great to learn from him.” Kyle’s favorite Bible verse is Isaiah 40:8, and he looks forward to most through this program the chance to “ share [his] passion for aviation with those who are curious to learn more about it”. #LETUaviation #TopHawk2016 #TopHawkU #LETUTopHawk [Link]

On December 12, 2015, Dr. Stan Coppinger, Professor of English traveled to New York to take part in the Fellowship of Performing Arts (FPA) drama festival. He and his wife were blessed to attend two plays at the Pearl Theatre on West 42nd Street—"The Great Divorce" and "C .S. Lewis Onstage: The Most Reluctant Convert— C .S. Lewis’ Journey From Atheism to Christianity."
The Great Divorce, based on the book by C.S. Lewis examines the spiritual choices that we all must make concerning God—will we embrace Him or reject Him? The play examines these themes thoroughly along with the nature of heaven and the nature of hell. The play explores what authentic love looks like and contrasts vividly the difference between humility and pride.
This experience was a valuable one for me. This semester I am teaching The Life and Writings of C.S. Lewis as an Honors course. One of the books we are discussing is The Great Divorce. And, of course, his conversion to Christianity and its resulting impact on his life are central themes of the class. This experience was not only intellectually stimulating but also gave me ideas for being more creative in the classroom with this honors course. [Link]

"Studying History/Political Science LeTourneau University this past semester has been rewarding, educationally and spiritually. I am attending college because I want to learn, and I believe life-long learning is the key to succeeding in life and helping others.
The history and political science courses at LeTourneau have confirmed the path that God has for me. My professors are encouraging and care about giving a strong education to each student.
I am thankful and honored to study at LeTourneau University. This college opened my eyes to the capabilities and possibilities God gave me, teaching me how to use each gift from God to benefit the world." [Link]
