Office hours are primarily weekdays, but responsibilities require additional hours and flexibility that can include evenings and weekends.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Director of Instructional Design and Technology will lead the instructional design and technology vision for LeTourneau. The Director will collaborate and bring institutional direction in leading the academic technologist within each of the schools of LeTourneau. The Director will lead LeTourneau in collaboration with faculty members (subject matter experts) to enable transformation of course materials into new formats and technology platforms. The Director must be well versed in current instructional/educational technology and will know how to utilize all forms of technology to enhance curriculum and the learning experience. The Director will collaborate with the Dean to establish a clear vision for the role of technology in curriculum design and must be able to articulate that vision through faculty training and university interactions in various channels. The Director will participate as a strategist in leading LeTourneau in appropriate direction for academic disciplines as related to emerging academic technologies. The incumbent interacts with high level executives within the university to include academic deans, the Provost’s office and the CIO.

Leadership/Quality Control
  • Conduct needs assessments and strategic learning assessments to develop the basis for curriculum development and/or to update curricula in collaboration with schools.
  • Lead the development of instruction roadmaps for online, blended and face to face learning programs.
  • Maintain an awareness of curriculum-related federal laws, accreditation requirements, and best practices and make recommendations regarding existing policies and procedures as necessary to assure compliance in those areas.
  • Maintain awareness and provide institutional leadership in current and emerging technologies that could impact and/or improve the delivery of educational courses, programs, and/or products.
  • Provide development assistance as necessary for master course documentation or manuals according to applicable accreditation, certification, or other requirements.
  • Provide analytical support for the design and development of training curricula, learning strategies, educational policies, or courseware standards.
  • Recommend changes to curricula or delivery methods, based on information such as instructional effectiveness data, current or future performance requirements, feasibility, and costs.
  • Research and evaluate emerging instructional technologies and methods.
  • Analyze performance data to determine effectiveness of instructional systems, courses, or instructional materials.
  • Enable a vibrant, multi-school team of instructional design and technologists to ensure meeting goals towards vision for technologies role in course design and the learning experience and good customer support for faculty members and constituents.
  • Observe and provide feedback on instructional techniques, presentation methods, or instructional aids.
  • Review course content and assignments to ensure high academic quality, utilization of a variety of learning methods and technologies, opportunities for active student-faculty engagement, and appropriate support resources for student success.
  • Develop measurement tools to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction or training interventions and learning experiences.
 
Training/Collaboration with Faculty
  • Develop instructional materials and products for technology-based redesign of courses.
  • Develop training materials and information for instructors to improve their use and effectiveness of instructional technology in the learning environment.
  • Design instructional aids for stand-alone or instructor-led classroom or online use.
  • Design, secure and implement learning products.
  • Assess effectiveness and efficiency of instruction according to ease of instructional technology use and student learning, knowledge transfer, and satisfaction.
  • Interview subject matter experts and/or conduct other research to develop recommendations regarding instructional content.
  • Present and make recommendations regarding course design, technology, and instruction delivery options.
  • Provide technical advice on the use of current instructional technologies, including but not limited to computer-based training, desktop videoconferencing, multimedia, and distance learning technologies.
  • Recommend instructional methods, such as individual or group instruction, self-study, lectures, demonstrations, simulation exercises, and role-playing, appropriate for content and learner characteristics.
  • Articulate LeTourneau’s mission and practice regarding the integration of faith and learning especially considering the role of technology and suggest ways that faculty members might develop this practice in their courses.
 
Faculty Support
  • Provide technical support to clients in the implementation of designed instruction or in task analyses and instructional systems design.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of faculty and student records
  • Edit instructional materials, such as books, simulation exercises, lesson plans, instructor guides, and tests.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must exhibit an enthusiastic and maturing Christian faith and commitment to the evangelical mission of the university.
  • Must model LeTourneau’s concept of faith, learning, and work as a holistic integration.
  • Terminal Degree preferred; must possess an accredited master’s degree. Graduate work in the areas of Instructional Design, Education, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Must provide evidence of successful teaching experience at the university level; minimum of two years preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of two years’ experience in the area of instructional design, instructional technology and/or computer support; Experience in the area of educational-related or faculty support is strongly preferred.
  • Must have college-level experience teaching in the classroom and online.
  • Must possess attention to detail and superb organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; collaborative style of communication and leadership.
  • Computer skills in MS Office to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access; skills in Lecture-Capture software, wikis, and other educational related software is preferred.
  • Expertise with Learning Management Systems operations, functions and troubleshooting; knowledge of several LMS platforms is preferred.
  • Understanding of how to adapt instructional content or delivery methods for different levels and types of learners.
  • Must be a self-starter who can lead LeTourneau’s vision for exceptional and highly-engaging learning experience both on ground and online.
