Engineering & Engineering Technology

Senior Design Teams

Our senior design teams' projects affect the lives of people all over the world. Our students design, build and test equipment as part of a senior capstone project.

Students work on teams made up of members studying various fields of engineering, forcing them to learn to divide responsibilities and work as a team to achieve a goal, skills essential to a successful career.

Our students are creating wheelchairs for children in Guatemala, designing mini baja cars to race in competitions and building wind turbines to provide sustainable, cheap energy for those serving in the mission field.

Rube Goldberg Competition

For over thirty years, LETU has hosted its annual Rube Goldberg competition. For the competition, engineering students build complex systems made to complete a simple task. See it for yourself - watch a video of last year's competition.

This project serves to teach students that in real life situations, things don't always work exactly as planned. This knowledge allows student to find creative solutions to problems as well as troubleshoot potential difficulties.

The competition is named after engineer and cartoonist Rube Goldberg, who is best known for creating a series of cartoons depicting complex gadgets which complete simple tasks in convoluted ways.

Student Organizations

Engineering and Engineering Technology students have opportunities to participate in a number of student organizations, giving them the chance to make personal and professional connections they will carry into their future careers.

Members of student organizations regularly compete in regional engineering and programming competitions, giving them chances to showcase their skills.

Student Organizations include the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Society of Women Engineers, the American Welding Society and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, among others.
