The B.S.E. with Computer Engineering concentration is offered by the Engineering department as one of five concentrations within the interdisciplinary Engineering degree. It provides the full engineering core curriculum with a senior design project. The CE concentration combines hardware and software, with an emphasis on hardware.
In comparison with the CSE program (Computer Science and Engineering), the CE concentration in engineering is more hardware focused than software focused. It is administered by the Engineering Department rather than the Mathematics Department and results in a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree. (There are good jobs for both types of approaches – it depends on what interests you most.)
In addition to courses in mathematics, calculus-based physics, chemistry, and the humanities/social sciences, students take a core of fundamental engineering coursework, a core of courses in the breadth of electrical engineering and computer science, and a sequence in computer engineering senior design. Along the way you will have the opportunity to study advanced programming, data structures, microprocessors, digital signal processing, and to design and build a single-board computer.
Computer engineers find employment in a wide range of fields, including chip design, networking, interface design, and applications to telecommunications and controls.
