Students have opportunities to develop an understanding of the historical, philosophical and sociological foundations of U.S. public and private education, and their influences on current issues and the future of education. Upon completion, students should be able to contribute an informed voice in the democratic process affecting the quality of education and the teaching profession. A significant aim of this survey course is to help students develop an understanding of the vital relationships teachers have between school and society.
