LeTourneau University’s annual Get it Together health fair will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Solheim Arena on the LeTourneau University campus, 2100 Mobberly Ave. in Longview.
The Get it Together Health Fair is one of East Texas’s largest healthcare events with over 70 business and health care professionals set up in the Solheim Arena. Good Shepherd Medical Center will be onsite to provide free medical lab tests that include complete lipid profiles and glucose testing. The Kidney Trust will provide serum kidney function tests and consultations. Health care professionals will provide fitness assessments, nutritional counseling, vision, glaucoma and hearing screenings, as well as spinal exams and foot screenings.
Participants can save hundreds of healthcare dollars on assessments and education. Door prizes are also given away every few minutes.
For most accurate lab results, participants are encouraged to fast after midnight, the night prior to having lab work drawn.
Other services include drug and alcohol prevention and abstinence education, along with mental health and wellness education. The community will also have opportunity to visit with a local pharmacist, and learn the importance of bone marrow donation and register with the National Marrow Donor Registry.
“Our free Get it Together health fair emphasizes the importance of making lifestyle changes to improve your overall health and well-being,” said LETU Director of Health Services Shela Dawson. “This community outreach encompasses the whole person, mentally, physically and spiritually.”
Dawson said last year’s health fair drew more than 1,000 people. Businesses and health care organizations seeking to have a booth at the LETU Get It Together Health Fair need to register before Sept. 19 online at www.letu.edu/healthfair2013 or by calling Shela Dawson at (903) 233-4445.
