LeTourneau University President Dr. Dale A. Lunsford has been selected by Longview Mayor Jay Dean to lead an I-20 Task Force to identify methods to draw more visitors into Longview from the interstate that passes through the south side of the city.
Lunsford served as the chairman of the Longview Chamber of Commerce for 2012. He has been outspoken in support for renovation of the city’s entrances from the interstate since he became the university’s president in 2007.
“Development of the I-20 corridor is a significant opportunity for the city of Longview to expand economic growth,” Lunsford said. “I look forward to the work the task force will do in the next few months.”
Lunsford said the Longview Chamber has launched a website www.longviewtexaslistens.com for members of the community to share their ideas for improving the community.
Online maps from the Texas Department of Transportation indicate that traffic along Interstate-20 is estimated at 37,000 vehicles per day.
