The Paul and Betty Abbott Aviation Center

Just a quick 10-minute drive from the LeTourneau University main campus, the Paul and Betty Abbott Aviation Center is a state-of-the-art, collegiate aviation facility. With cutting-edge classrooms and labs, this 55,000-sq.-ft facility is the hub of operations for one of the nation's leading aviation training programs. Located at the East Texas Regional Airport (KGGG) with its 10,000 ft. runway and FAA control tower, the Abbott Aviation Center provides a perfect flight training environment for our professional pilot students. Of course, our Air Traffic Control and Airframe & Powerplant students also benefit by the close proximity to an active airport operations area. Our airport location also encourages our military alumni to fly in for a visit, giving our students the opportunity to see and touch high performance military aircraft.

• Flight training area, 3,350 square feet, includes: flight instructor office area, student flight planning area, flight dispatch counter and waiting area adjacent to the aircraft flight line access door
• Four classrooms appropriately configured for aviation courses and designed to individually accommodate classes of 23, 33, 39 and 56 students
• Nine purpose-built laboratories tailored to support highly specialized lab courses used by the Applied Aviation Sciences Department 
• Technical labs of 14,118 square feet, contiguous and used by the Applied Aviation Sciences Department
• Walk-through and overhead doors allowing easy access to the training aircraft and Marty Donner Engine Test Facility
• Student lounge of 400 square feet, conveniently located on a main corridor
• Open seating areas where students study and socialize
• Admissions office suite to meet and host future students and their families
• Administrative suite, with offices for dean, associate dean, department chairs and other administrative staff
• Seventeen offices for faculty and other school staff
• Large workroom, file storage room and faculty/staff break room
• Large conference suite: 3,440-square-foot Grand Hall, 1,000-square-foot Board Room, 750-square-foot reception area
• Conference room of 385 square feet

Building on Our History

LETU has been preparing certified pilots and Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) mechanics for decades. That tradition is now carried out in an exceptional facility fully equipped to fuel the best in flight, aeronautical engineering, air traffic control and aircraft maintenance education. Located just across from where LeTourneau University's history of aircraft maintenance and flight training began, the Paul and Betty Abbott Aviation Center provides the ultimate in aviation equipment, flight simulators, ATC simulators, airplanes, helicopters and maintenance labs.

The LETU School of Aeronautical Science is committed to excellence, from its outstanding record of safety to its nationally recognized quality and achievement - and its facilities are no exception. From its flight dispatch area to its air traffic control tower lab, the Abbott Center houses a close-knit community of faculty and students who share a love for aviation. It is home to the future pilots, aircraft engineers, aircraft mechanics, and air traffic controllers who will safely design, maintain, navigate and monitor the airplanes in our skies for decades to come.
