Alum Mark Roedel, who was a freshman in 1991, explains these beanies from back in the day: "They were given to students during orientation. My floor - 3B - made us wear them for two weeks and we had to get all the upperclassmen to sign them."
Don't worry, incoming freshmen! We haven't seen initiation beanies on campus for a while now. #ThrowbackThursday [Link]

In just three days Ernie Haase & Signature Sound will hit the Belcher Center stage!! On Saturday, May 10th, join us in experiencing some of the best Southern gospel music out there! Watch the video below for a sample of their high-energy performances!
Forget your normal Gospel Quartet. Ernie Haase & Signature Sound (EHSS) have broken the mold. Their unconventional approach to communicating the Good News with groundbreaking originality has blazed a trail that will go down in gospel music history. Across Europe they have been nicknamed the “Ambassadors of Joy” because of the message of hope and joy that permeates their performances.
The group's founder and leader, Ernie Haase, was a long-time member of the famous Cathedral Quartet, headed by the late George Younce. Ernie's roots are deeply planted in the rich legacy of music that is both meaningful and thoroughly entertaining. After the Cathedrals bade farewell to their five-decade run in the music industry, Ernie's passion for gospel music led him to a new beginning.
In 2003, he gathered a group of like-minded men who shared his love for God, great harmonies, timehonored songs and energetic performances... and together they have become one of the most influential forces in southern gospel music. Inspired by their heroes, loved by their audiences and blessed by the Lord beyond their dreams, Ernie (tenor), Devin McGlamery (lead), Doug Anderson (baritone) and Ian Owens (bass) perform more than 100 shows yearly in North America and abroad. In 2012 they will have a major tour of Australia and New Zealand, as well as two visits to Europe and a first tour of India.
For more information or to purchase your tickets, click the "Buy Tickets" tab above, visit our website at www.BelcherCenter.com, call us at (903) 233-3080, or stop by the Box Office in person. Once you have purchased your tickets, click "Join" below and then let all of your friends know by "Inviting" them!

Did you know that today in 1961, a Canadian Pacific Air Lines Douglas DC-8 (CF-CPG) became the first airliner to break the sound barrier? It reached Mach 1.012 in a dive with a true air speed of 662.5 mph at an altitude of 39,614 feet . The dive started at the highest altitude ever flown by a fully-loaded transport jet: 50,000 feet at a weight of 107,600 pounds. This feat occurred as the aircraft was being tested by Douglas prior to being delivered to Canadian Pacific. (Info courtesy of http://cpair.blogspot.com/2007/03/fleet-douglas-dc-8s.html) (5 likes)

By improving our understanding of progressive collapse in steel structures, Dr Cortes hopes to ultimately improve our ability to design resilient and safe structures.
